Denise Winkelman grew up in northern Minnesota, the oldest of two in a small-town family. From an early age, she dreamed of being a professional wrestler, chasing that passion into the ring before life took her in a new direction. She later built a career as a financial advisor, but it was laughter that helped her truly find her voice.

Struggling with her identity for much of her early life, she transitioned in 2013, an act of courage that gave her the freedom to live authentically.

Inspired by comedians like Chris Rock, Iliza Shlesinger, and Mike Birbiglia, Denise discovered stand-up as a way to connect with others and turn hardships into humor.

Her debut special Bougie on a Budget is streaming now on Apple TV and Amazon Prime. She has also been featured in Variety and MSN.
